Closing September, Welcoming October: Awareness to Legacy

Warrior Awareness Month

Warrior Awareness Month 🎗️❤️

As we step into October, I want to pause and reflect on the powerful journey we walked through in September—Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

This September, we moved with purpose. We launched Operation Snuggles, an initiative designed to bring comfort to warriors during hospital stays. What began as a simple act of love grew into a shared mission, thanks to organizations, nonprofits, and community partners who stood with us.

We showed up in collaboration—visiting groups, building partnerships, and extending the reach of the Red Stick Sickle Cell Group beyond our own circle. These connections reminded me that advocacy is not done in isolation—it is strengthened through community.

To learn more on this initiative, please visit the Operation Snuggles webpage using the navigation bar above.

September may have kicked off Operation Snuggles during the Sickle Cell Awareness Month, but our mission doesn’t stop there. This initiative continues all year long_bringing comfort, love and support to warriors in hospitals everywhere.

With the holidays around the corner, you can helo spread even more warmth by gifting a snuggle. Grab one (or more!) from our storefront and make a difference in a warriors life: https://honeycombhealth.store/collections/red-stick-sickle-cell-store

We also gathered for the Red Balloon Walk with Janiyah’s Love, honoring the life of 7-year-old warrior Janiyah. Standing there was a sobering reminder that awareness is not just about information—it’s about remembering the lives behind the fight.

And personally, September is always a month of remembrance. I honor my sister, whose memory still fuels my purpose, and my friend Jewel, whose birthday was September 30th. Their legacies, alongside so many others, remind me why I cannot let this work go silent.

September was about awareness, yes—but it was also about action, community, and remembrance. It was about showing up, even in the hard places, and choosing to turn grief into purpose.

Now, as we enter October, we carry that awareness into a new theme: Love & Loss Revisited. This month, we will hold space for both the grief and the gratitude, the heartbreak and the healing.

Because love does not end where loss begins—it becomes legacy.

For the warriors we’ve lost.

For the warriors still fighting.

For the families who keep going.

We will continue to show up.
