What is Sickle Cell Disease..

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited blood disorder that affects how red blood cells work in the body. In someone with SCD, the red blood cells become hard, sticky, and shaped like a sickle (a curved farming tool), which makes it harder for blood and oxygen to flow through the body. This can cause pain, fatigue, frequent infections, and other serious health issues. While there is no universal cure, many individuals with SCD live long, fulfilling lives with early care, emotional support, and strong family advocacy.

What Sickle Cell Awareness Looks Like to Me…

To me, sickle cell awareness is more than wearing red or recognizing an awareness month. It's making sure our stories are heard, our experiences are understood, and our community knows they are not alone.

As a sickle cell warrior, advocate, and Community Health Worker, my lived experience inspired me to create Red Stick Sickle Cell Group and grow that mission through Warriors Speak Out.

This is my creative space to educate, share resources, build community, and amplify the voices of warriors and families.

Whether you're a warrior, caregiver, advocate, or simply here to learn—welcome. Let's keep the conversation going and Keep Hope Alive.
