Meet Warrior Cayy Lovings
@nomorepainscd | Living with Sickle Cell Anemia & AVN
“Just keep swimming.”
As a child, Cayy Lovings didn’t understand what sickle cell was—only that it seemed to steal the moments that should have brought her joy. Birthdays spent in the hospital. Holidays interrupted by pain crises. A childhood marked not by play, but by poking, prodding, and people who didn’t understand.
“I used to hate having Sickle Cell,” Cayy shares. “I was picked on. I didn’t get why this was happening to me.” The weight of living with SCA (Sickle Cell Anemia) and AVN (Avascular Necrosis) felt too heavy. But over time—and through faith—Cayy began to see sickle cell through a different lens.
“God allowed me to see that SC is a blessing,” she says. “It’s taught me so much about trusting Elohim and not taking life for granted.”
There were moments when things became truly life or death. Moments when Cayy’s blood count dropped so low that doctors prepared for the worst. But God had different plans. “If I’m still here, I know it’s for a reason,” she says. That purpose began to shine through her love for humor.
Cayy decided if people were going to laugh at her—she’d be the first to laugh with them. “That’s why I started making funny videos about sickle cell,” she smiles. “Because if anybody's going to laugh and make fun of me, it's going to be me—lol!”
Through comedy and compassion, Cayy is shifting the narrative of what it means to live with a chronic illness. She’s found power in grace, strength in her mother’s support, and a message worth sharing:
“Give yourself grace and mercy. We go through enough already. Be kind to yourself.”
Cayy is a radiant reminder that your story doesn't end with pain. It can begin with purpose—and even joy. As she says:
“No More Pain. Just Keep Swimming.”
